Historic Uptown St Pete Reimagined and Ready to Thrive
Something’s happening in Historic Uptown St Pete, and it’s pretty big! Thanks to its residents’ vision and community involvement, this charming area of St. Petersburg is quickly emerging as THE place to live for people seeking an inviting, walkable, vibrant, safe community to call home.
Last week, Sharon McSwain, Kevin Robles, and Tim Terpening from Domain Homes met with the board of the Historic Uptown Neighborhood Association (HUNA) to introduce the home building company and to discuss the neighborhood plan which was recently submitted to the city of St. Petersburg. Sharon spoke briefly about our history of building new homes in South Tampa and about our desire to fit in and be a good partner with HUNA in moving Historic Uptown St Pete forward. From our experience in Port Tampa, Ballast Point, and the Interbay area near MacDill AFB, we knew that this area was primed to thrive. After meeting with the board members, we were even more enthused about our affordable new homes for sale in St. Petersburg.
HUNA consists of homeowners and renters alike who care about this charming community and are supremely invested in its well being. As mentioned in the meeting, we look forward to adding value to Historic Uptown St Pete and to doing our part to make the neighborhood plan a reality. If you are currently shopping in Tampa Bay for a new house and looking for a great neighborhood to call home, we would strongly encourage you to consider Historic Uptown St Pete. The following is an excerpt from the meeting minutes:
“Jonathan (Chalker) introduced Sharon McSwain, Kevin Robles and Tim Terpening from Domain Homes. Their company has been building homes within the HUNA territory and the Board reached out to them to establish a partnership and communication so residents can be informed of changes impacting the HUNA neighborhood.
“Sharon, the owner of Domain Homes, has been in the building business for 30 years. She started in the Atlanta area and now lives in Florida.
“Domain started building ‘in fill’ homes successfully in the Tampa area in 2011 and in 2013 moved into Pinellas County… Rather than build standardized tract homes, Domain will purchase empty lots or vacant properties ready for tear down and take a ‘scattered lot’ approach to developing within an established neighborhood. They have worked to develop a partnership with the city of St. Petersburg and wanted to also reach out to HUNA neighbors. They have developed and sold several new homes on 8th Street and have several more lots/homes under contract within HUNA territory.
“They purchased the old boarding house at 701 9th Ave N. and it is scheduled for demolition as it is structurally unsafe. They are also building single family homes on the vacant lot on 9th Ave N. (832 Grove St N.) where their construction trailer currently sits. They welcome feedback from the community and will be hosting an open house/mixer with HUNA residents and their new home owners soon at one of their properties, encouraging all neighbors to drop by. They are working to build individual homes that fit into the character of the neighborhood and are appropriate for the local downtown environment. They have a website: http://52.41.7.194 and are also on Facebook.”
We currently have one inventory home left – 816 8th St N. – and five more coming in early 2014. To see all our available homes or to see where else we are building, visit DomainHomes.com.
