Today is the last day you can vote on the design of the new St. Pete pier.
One of Tampa Bay’s best-known landmarks and tourist attractions is getting a makeover and you can have a say in the new look. The St. Petersburg Pier, locally called The Pier, extends into Tampa Bay from downtown St. Petersburg. The Pier that first opened in 1973 features a five-story inverted pyramid-shaped building that has been home to various restaurants, shops, galleries, and even a cool aquarium. The Pier was closed to the public in mid-2013 with plans to demolish and rebuild. The initial design concept called The Lens was rejected by a voter referendum, so architects went back to the drawing board.
The public has been invited to weigh in on their favorite new St. Pete Pier. Many varying proposals were submitted all of which included great dining and shopping options. 10 News Tampa Bay had a great write up today on all 7 of the finalists. Here is a look at the new ideas:
